Construction begins for The Williamson House care centre in Jarvis

Shovels hit the ground at the Nanticoke Creek Parkway in Jarvis Wednesday, as construction began for a new hospice palliative care centre.

Norfolk Haldimand Community Hospice (NHCH) held a groundbreaking ceremony for the development of The Williamson House, which is targeted to complete by 2028.

The facility will be built on land donated by Alan Williamson in memory of his father Drew.

The new centre will offer 10 dedicated hospice palliative care bedrooms, expand current care services and offer a safe space for people to receive support and care for emotional needs surrounding the death of a loved one.

“This is a day our communities have been working toward for many years,” said Andrea Binkle, the executive director of the NHCH in a statement. “The Williamson House is more than a building. It represents our community coming together to make sure that when people face end-of-life, they and their families can get compassionate, dignified care close to home.”
