Hamilton police rescue puppies on Red Hill Valley Parkway during heatwave

While conducting speed enforcement on the Red Hill Valley Parkway, Hamilton police ended chasing something a little different than speeders.

Officers spotted a tiny, frail puppy wandering dangerously close to traffic in the heat Tuesday morning.

After safely rescuing the first pup, they discovered his sister hiding nearby and too scared to come out.

Using pepperoni from an officer’s lunch, police lured the frightened puppy to safety.

Both dogs were given water, cooled off inside a cruiser and later turned over to Hamilton Animal Services.

Officers say the puppies appeared dehydrated, but were soon wagging their tails and soaking up attention.

Hamilton police say it is difficult to determine the reason why the dogs were there, or whether they were abandoned or they had escaped from somewhere.
