Hamilton police say they have arrested and charged two youths Wednesday, who were involved in a fentanyl trafficking investigation.

Officers say they saw two youths allegedly dealing drugs in the area of King Street East and James Street North.

They say the youths were “displaying characteristics indicative of drug trafficking” in dealing Dilaudid (hydromorphone) and fentanyl to unhoused people.

Police attempted to arrest the two under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act.

They were able to arrest one youth without incident, but the second tried to escape on foot.

Investigators caught them after a brief foot chase, and placed both youths into custody.

Both youths were charged with offences related to possessing opioids for the purpose of trafficking.

Hamilton Police say they recently shut down an open-air drug market as part of “Project Open Air” that resulted in 57 arrests and 103 charges.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
