Hamilton police arrest two for armed robbery of Bank of Montreal

Hamilton police arrest two people after an armed robbery investigation that began two weeks ago at a Hamilton Mountain Bank of Montreal.

Officers say on May 6, at around 1:45 p.m., a masked man entered the BMO branch at 1128 Fennell Ave. E.

The man is accused of threatening staff and claiming to have a firearm before leaving the bank.

Detectives say they searched an East Mountain home on Tuesday and seized two loaded, prohibited firearms, extended firearm magazines. They also recovered around 300 grams of methamphetamine and Canadian currency that police believe to be proceeds of crime.

Investigators charged 58-year-old Joseph Martineau and 51-year-old Lisa Kerchener, both of Hamilton, with 11 joint charges.

The charges are:

  • Three counts of possession of a prohibited weapon
  • Two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Two counts of possession of a loaded prohibited firearm
  • Two counts of possession of a firearm
  • Possession of proceeds of a crime worth over $5,000
  • Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking

Authorities are continuing to investigate and are asking any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
