Hamilton police are appealing to the public for any information that will help them solve the murder of a 16-year-old boy about a year ago on Stoney Creek Mountain.
Faizaan Awan wasn’t from the area but detectives are certain someone knows what he was doing in town the morning he was killed.
At around 4:20 a.m. on Thursday March 6, officers received several 911 calls about a shooting in the area of Highway 8 and Fruitland Road. When police arrived, they discovered two vehicles crashed and a teenager in the driver’s seat of an Acura suffering from several gunshot wounds.
Faizaan Awan, 16, of York region was taken to hospital where he later died from his injuries.
“As far as we know, Faizaan Awan was targeted,” said Det. Staff Sgt. Robert Di Ianni. “There was a chase that lasted several kilometres and there were several firearms used but none of those firearms have been recovered.”

Police wouldn’t say if there were multiple shooters in one vehicle or if it was an exchange of gunfire from the two vehicles at the scene. Three stolen vehicles in total were recovered.
“There were several vehicles involved, two at the scene, one silver Infinity recovered a short distance away,” said Det. Staff Sgt. Di Ianni. “We think that some of the people got in the vehicles and fled the scene.”
Authorities are still trying to figure out why 16-year-old Faizaan Awan was in the area that night and why he may have been targeted.
“We know from surveillance video that several people fled the scene … nobody has been identified yet, but we’re hoping the public will help us identify the people and why Faizaan was targeted.”
Two other people were inside the Acura at the time of the shooting, one suffered a minor gunshot wound and received treatment at a later date. Both have already been interviewed by police.
