Hamilton officials provide an update on COVID-19 in the city

City of Hamilton employees who have been working from home during the pandemic will soon be heading back to the office and the vaccine requirements will remain for all city staff.

The first phase of staff will return to work in a phased approach starting March, 21st but city staff will be required to show proof of vaccination.

Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger says, “we are committed to maintaining a safe workplace, the mandate for proof of vaccine will remain.”

Eisenberger was asked today about the frustrations protestors expressed throughout the country and right here in Hamilton but said those people don’t speak for all Canadians. “The small minority are making a lot of noise and making their voices heard, but I don’t think that represents the majority of our population.”

As of March 1st, the province will be loosening the vaccine passport restrictions health and city officials say Hamilton will follow suit.

More than 85% of Hamiltonians have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine while over 283,000 in the city have been jabbed a third time.

The virus continues to cause issues in local hospitals, and hospitals continue to see a strain in staffing issues.

The city will also follow the province’s lead when it comes to wearing masks in public places.
