Hamilton residents scramble to find spots after parking lot closed indefinitely

Some residents who live in an apartment building on the west mountain are frustrated they’ve been without parking for almost 7 months now.

Their underground garage needs some major renovations and is currently off-limits.

Effort Trust, the property management company closed the 50-year-old garage back in July because it needed major restorations and that meant about 90 vehicles had to find a new home. Tenants say there are not enough spots for all the cars in the building.

There are 137 units in the building, many of the residents have been here for years they tell CHCH News it’s frustrating, not having a spot to park their car.

Effort Trust said Tuesday, it is seeking permission from the city to construct a temporary parking lot at the back of the complex. In a statement, they say that “permission from the city for our additional parking is anticipated shortly. ”

Effort Trust says it appreciates the inconvenience to its residents during this time and says the restoration plan is taking longer than expected because of COVID-19 delays. Even though it is now underway, it is still expected to take another two years to complete.
