Police have charged a 61-year-old Hamilton man in connection with the death of his 87-year-old mother last summer.
Hamilton police say they responded to reports of an elderly woman, Zofija Tokic, in medical distress last July.
The woman was transported to Hamilton General Hospital and was admitted to the intensive care unit.
Hospital staff then contacted police with concerns regarding suspected elder neglect. Tokic died in hospital on July 16, 2025.
Following an investigation, police charged her son Peter Tokic with manslaughter and criminal negligence causing death in relation to his mother’s death.
Police are reminding residents that elder abuse can take many forms, including neglect, physical harm, emotional abuse, or financial exploitation.
