Hamilton man arrested in Jackson Square for alleged fentanyl trafficking

Hamilton police arrested a man Friday evening in Jackson Square on drug trafficking charges.

Officers say they were conducting routine patrols of the downtown core at around 5 p.m. when they observed a man with suspected controlled substances and in the food court of the mall.

Investigators say they arrested 45-year-old Darrel Mayer of Hamilton and seized around 45 grams of fentanyl, $1,800 in Canadian money, two phones and other drug related items.

Mayer has been charged with possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking and the proceeds of crime under $5,000.

Police say they arrested the accused, brought him into custody and then released him on an undertaking.
