Hamilton hospital reports increase in hip fractures, warns of icy conditions

Hamilton Health Sciences’ Juravinski Hospital emergency department saw an increase in hip fractures in early February, and is reminding the public to take extra caution when walking on ice or slippery snow.
The department dealt with over 25 hip fractures in the first week of the month and reported that the increase is likely related to the recent icy and wintery weather.
“We encourage everyone to be cautious of your surroundings, wear appropriate footwear, and keep paths clear or salted,” said Dr. Alim Pardhan, Chief of Emergency Medicine at the hospital.
