Hamilton-Burlington SPCA holds adoptathon

The Hamilton-Burlington SPCA hopes to give a lot of animals a home for the holidays.

It is hosting a midnight madness adopt-a-thon today. The SPCA’s Pam Jamieson says “It is about awareness. It is the holiday season and we are full of lots of emotions and lots of things going on, sharing, family and also getting gifts.”

“We know pets are for life and not just for Christmas. Everybody knows that you have to be ready for it. What a time for them to be safe and sound with people who love them instead of in a sheltered environment.”

“Mind you we take good care of them here. We love them and do enrichment in our kennels. We have wonderful volunteers who are walking them every day.”

“Still, it saddens our heart to know they don’t have a Christmas tree to knock over, or turkeys to steal off the table, or little kids to play with and love them.

Adoptive parents are invited to come in during the hours of operation and fill out a survey. That process can take up to 45 minutes just in paperwork and information. The best part of all is when you get to do the meet and gree and spend time for your forever friend.

The cost is $350, but if you live in the Hamilton area it includes the city tag and includes the neutering of the pet, the initial vaccines, but adopters are responsible for follow-up. They are de-wormed and microchipped so all of the good things a pet needs to keep them good canine citizens and the rest is up to the adopter, the training, the time and the patience.

There are dogs, puppies, cats, kittens and other small animals available like rabbits and guinea pigs and birds. It goes until midnight at the Hamilton-Burlington SPCA on Dartnall Rd.
