Halton police arrest two Hamilton teens after early morning auto thefts

Halton police have arrested two teens after they allegedly stole a car early Wednesday morning in Burlington.

Investigators say at around 6:35 a.m. on April 15, a man had his Toyota SUV stolen while he was delivering a package to a home on Kempling Lane.

Two males allegedly arrived in a Toyota minivan, before one of them got out and left in the stolen SUV.

The minivan, which police later determined had been stolen from Hamilton, was involved in a crash and abandoned on Bunton Crescent.

Detectives have connected the pair to a theft in Oakville from the same morning.

Officers say credit cards were taken from a vehicle and used at various locations.

Police say they arrested the two accused boys, aged 13 and 15, later that evening at a home in Hamilton.

The 15-year-old has been charged with:

  • Theft of a motor vehicle
  • Possession of property obtained by a crime worth over $5,000
  • Theft under $5,000
  • Fraud under $5,000
  • Failing to stop after an accident
  • Two counts of failing to comply while on a release order

The 13-year-old has been charged with:

  • Theft of a motor vehicle
  • Possession of property obtained by a crime worth over $5,000
  • Theft under $5,000
  • Fraud under $5,000
  • Failing to stop after an accident
  • Failure to comply while on an undertaking

The pair have been held in custody pending their bail hearing.
