Police in Halton and Peel regions have recovered 24 stolen vehicles worth $2.1 million that were bound for Dubai.

The police services started collaborating with the Canada Border Service Agency in February to investigate the international auto theft ring.

Officers say the suspects would break into the vehicles and reprogram the ignition computers in order to drive them with a new key.

The vehicles were then driven to either the Port of Montreal or loaded into shipping containers in Toronto and transported by train to Montreal.

Investigators say the vehicles – including a Rolls-Royce worth $500,000 – were intercepted while in transit through Morocco, making this the largest seizure of stolen Canadian vehicles in Morocco.

Police say the vehicles have since been returned to Canada.

No arrests have been made at this time.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact the Regional Auto Theft Task Force at 905-825-4777 ext. 3407.
