Guy: “it wasn’t my call” to kill gas plants

Liberal campaign director and Dalton McGuinty’s former chief of staff, Don Guy, is denying he had anything to do with the decision to cancel two gas plants in Oakville and Mississauga that cost taxpayers at least $585 million.

Guy said his role was to arrange the announcement of McGuinty’s decision. He says McGuinty had the idea for the cancellations before the Liberal election campaign even began.

The opposition is accusing the Liberals of cancelling the plants in order to save seats in the 2011 election. Emails show McGuinty’s office wanted cabinet ministers to say it was the government that cancelled the plants, and not its own campaign team.
