Grandad’s Donuts in Hamilton was forced to temporarily shut down due to a fryer breakdown Sunday night and likely won’t reopen until the weekend.
On Monday, the iconic, family-run bakery on James Street North said it will be able to reopen thanks to GEM Electric.
“Our new fryer is hooked up and ready to go!” staff wrote in a post on Facebook.
“Thank you all for being so patient with us while we worked through this unexpected setback.”

On Tuesday, the business wrote in a separate Facebook post that they were only able to use their new fryer once due to it having a faulty part.
“A replacement part has been ordered, but unfortunately it will take two to three days to arrive and be installed,” staff wrote.
“We are extremely disappointed and stressed. What we thought was fixed has turned into something much bigger than we ever expected.”
Grandad’s Donuts reassures customers that they will continue to post updates online as they get them and will reach out to anyone with orders scheduled over the next few days.
“Hamilton, we are so sorry to let you down. Our hope is to be back for Saturday, if not sooner. We truly can’t believe this has happened again,” they wrote.
