Fukushima fuel rod situation growing hotter

Nuclear concerns in Japan are mounting by the minute.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission declared Wednesday, that all the water is gone from one of the spent fuel pools at Japan’s Fukushima plant.
The agency says that means there’s nothing to stop the fuel rods from getting hotter — and ultimately melting down.
It also says the outer shell of the rods could ignite with enough force to propel the radioactive fuel inside over a wide area — but as of Wednesday evening Japanese officials were denying the American claims.
Do they have the upper hand, or are U.S. officials right? And, is there now nothing that can be done to stop the fuel rods from melting down?
We discuss these issues with Dr John Luxat, a professor of nuclear safety analysis with McMaster University.
