Frozen
Inspired by Hans Christian Anderson’s The Snow Queen, Frozen follows a pair of sisters, Elsa and Anna. After Elsa’s ability to control ice and snow leads to a childhood accident, the princesses are separated and Elsa’s powers kept secret from the kingdom. However on her coronation day Elsa’s secret is revealed and she runs into hiding, causing a perpetual winter to fall over the land. It’s up to her sister Anna, along with a mountain man named Kristoff and his trusty reindeer Sven, to find Elsa and stop the winter curse before it’s too late.
Another Disney Animation musical naturally means a ton of fantastic new songs for audiences to enjoy. For Frozen husband and wife song writing team Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez took on the task of writing eight original songs for the film. The two previously worked on Disney’s Winnie The Pooh. Robert Lopez also has a pair of Tonys for his work on Avenue Q and The Book of Mormon, so audiences can expect some humour in the music as well. Lopez isn’t the only Broadway star in this film, Idina Menzel plays the Snow Queen Elsa with Kristen Bell staring as her sister, Anna; Book of Mormon alum Josh Gad voices the enchanted snowman Olaf and Jonathan Groff takes on the role of Kristoff.
Frozen marks the first feature length film by Walt Disney Animation Studios directed by a woman, Jennifer Lee co-directed with Chris Buck. A story of sisterhood and forgiveness, Frozen looks to melt hearts this winter.
