Here at home, fans rallied in support for Team Canada at watch parties and in bars that were open early for the game.

It was a packed house at QB Sports Bar Grill Games in Burlington this morning, fans ready to watch a potential golden moment.

Meanwhile in Stoney Creek, Ont., the U11 AA Warriors and their families gathered to cheer on Team Canada, dreaming one day it could be them.

Scoring first was Team USA, then it was the 5-on-3 power play in the second period, they felt it in their bones – Canada was about to score.

It didn’t happen until less than two minutes left in the period – the watch party erupted. Tied at one.

Then the room deflated as the American team scored, taking the gold. Warriors coaching staff made sure practice was cancelled this morning so their athletes could witness and learn from the moment.

“I think them seeing this, seeing it firsthand that professionals can go through this. And it’s just bouncing back and having a short memory,” said Tim Lomax, U11 AA Stoney Creek Warriors head coach.

“To represent Canada like that, from Celebrini who’s 19 to Crosby who’s kind of in his twilight years of his career. He’s done so much for this country. I think it brings us together,” said Chris Knighton, Warriors assistant coach.
