Canada’s men’s hockey team is skating off the ice with a silver medal following a hard-fought battle against the United States.
The U.S. men’s hockey team has won gold after defeating the Canadian team 2-1 in overtime Sunday morning.
Jack Hughes, a forward from the New Jersey Devils, scored 1:41 into overtime to secure the win for the Americans.
Matthew Boldy of the Minnesota Wild scored the first goal for the Americans in the first period, with Colorado Avalanche defenceman Cale Makar tying up the game late in the second.
Canada’s captain Sidney Crosby was sidelined with a lower-body injury sustained in their quarterfinal win over Czechia.
This is the first gold medal for the U.S. men’s hockey team since the 1980 Lake Placid Games.
With the addition of this silver medal, Canada now has a total of 21 medals.
