(Updated) Hundreds of trucks are stranded in a winter blast of snow in Fort Erie, still unable to cross the peace bridge into the United States.

The bridge has been closed to trucks since early this morning, forcing U.S.-bound truckers to park at a truck stop on the Canadian side. Between 6 and 7 centimetres of snow has fallen in Fort Erie in the last two hours.

New York state police say it is still too dangerous for drivers to use local highways. In Buffalo a “no-drive advisory” remains in effect.

For the stranded truckers, the inconvenience depends on experience and outlook.

“With the snow like this and the bridges shut down, they’re saying it’s not going to be opened up until they open up (I-90) and they’re talking Friday.”

“I’ve been stuck in storms lots of times. I’ve been driving for 30 years, and it happens, I’ve been stuck all over the U.S., and here.”

“I just want to go home, I don’t want to sit here and wait. But it’s OK. It is what it is, it’s that time of the year.”

“Well there ain’t much we can do about it. They gotta wait until they clear ’em out and stuff so, other than that you know you just gotta sit and wait.”

New York officials have been calling for people to take their warnings seriously and stay off the roads if they can. Governor Andrew Cuomo warns that conditions are going to get worse before they get better.
