A city-boy with farming in his blood is chasing his dream to become a dairy farmer. 16-year old, Taylor Edwards never enjoyed school — until he started a co-op placement at “Sommers Farms’ in Thorold a year and a half ago. Today, Taylor is taking the next step by receiving his apprenticeship papers: “I like working with the cows and milking is pretty fun so hopefully i can learn how to feed and take care of them.”
Lenny Sommers: “We were looking for somebody to do just some of the physical labour.”
The apprenticeship works just like any other, Taylor will be going to school for one week every month and must put 6-thousand hours into the placement.
