Fans across the world are mourning the sudden and shocking death of Matthew Perry, one of the beloved stars of the hit show “Friends”.

The actor was found dead in a hot tub in his home in Los Angeles on Saturday, according to local law enforcement.

Representatives for Perry say his death appears to be the result of a drowning. He was 54.

Police say that no foul play is suspected but the incident is still under investigation and his body remains with the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office pending an autopsy.

Additionally they note that there were no drugs found on the scene.

The Emmy-nominated actor is best known for his role as the charming and notoriously sarcastic Chandler Bing.

Friends and fans have flooded social media with an outpouring of love and grief since the announcement of his death.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau shared an emotional tribute to X Saturday night, saying in part “I’ll never forget the schoolyard games we used to play, and I know people around the world are never going to forget the joy he brought them.”

Perry attended Rockcliffe Park Public School in Ottawa with Trudeau. The two were just three years apart in age. The Canadian-American star famously joked on late night television in 2017 that he beat up the Prime Minister when they were in elementary school together.

Last November, Perry released a memoir titled “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing” where he described his long battle with alcohol and drug addiction.

In an interview with People Magazine promoting his book, he said “If I did die, it would shock people, but it wouldn’t surprise anybody.”

The cause of death will be determined at a later date by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
