Facebook begins battle against fake news stories

Facebook has announced they will be working with third-party fact checking organizations to help identify and flag hoaxes and fake news stories.

Once a story has been flagged as disputed by the fact-checkers, a notification will be put on the post.

Users can still share the post but another notification will pop up stating the story’s accuracy has been disputed.

In a statement, Facebook says, “It’s important to us that the stories you see on Facebook are authentic and meaningful. We’re excited about this progress, but we know there’s more to be done. We’re going to keep working on this problem for as long as it takes to get it right.”

The social media site has also added a feature that will allow users to report fake news posts.

They say stories that have been flagged may also appear lower in News Feed.

Facebook says these measures are just the first steps they are taking to improve the experience for users.
