The Expendables 3

The Expendables 3 is, obviously, the third instalment in the action hero revival series, directed this time by Patrick Hughes. In the film the mercenary group, led by their fearless leader Barney Ross, picks up a job taking down a ruthless warlord and prevent a powerful weapon from falling into the wrong hands. The mission takes a personal turn when they discover their adversary is none other than Conrad Stonebanks, one of The Expendables co-founders, and he’s hellbent on taking down Barney and his team. The film stars returning cast members Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, and Arnold Schwarzenegger, and adds to the bunch, Antonio Banderas, Wesley Snipes, Kelsey Grammer, Kellan Lutz, Ronda Rousey, Victor Ortiz, Mel Gibson, and Harrison Ford.

Stallone had briefly considered taking up the directing duties again for The Expendables 3, but felt it would be better left to Hughes. The up and coming filmmaker wanted to add his own touch to this entry and add a bit of humour. “It was a bit of a balancing act. Alfred Hitchcock said that some films are a slice of life and some are a slice of cake. This movie’s a big fat slice of cake with a sugar coating on top. Balancing the comedy with the emotional weight and drive of the story became critical.The Expendables are dealing with the possible loss of one of their team.We added characters like Galgo, played by Antonio Banderas, to bring out the humor.”

The Expendables 3 is rated PG.
