Ex-Burlington teacher sentenced to nearly five years for abusing students in 1980s

A former Burlington elementary school teacher who sexually assaulted five students at Pineland Public School in the 1980s has been sentenced to nearly five and a half years in prison.

The Superior Court of Justice says 88-year-old Barbara Baxter will serve the custodial sentence of 65 months concurrently.

The court handed down sentences of 25 months, 16 months, 16 months, four months, and four months for offences related to each of the victims, respectively.

Baxter was ordered to provide a DNA sample for the national database.

She is also prohibited from communicating either directly or indirectly with any of the five complainants for the custodial period of the sentence.
