EV rebate program returns, dealers wary of delayed reimbursements

The federal electric vehicle rebate program is back today, offering up to $5,000 off new EVs under $50,000 and $2,500 for plug-in hybrids.

The popular incentive is welcome news for most dealerships.

However, some remain cautious because the federal portal to submit reimbursement claims won’t open until April. And some dealers say they’re still owed money from the previous program.

A Kia dealership in Grimsby says it’s out $20,000 after Transport Canada denied a 2024 rebate claim, saying the program had already ended.
