Elementary school teachers ready to strike

Updated A warning from Ontario’s elementary teachers: they’re planning on striking next month, but are promising a three day warning for parents – so you may want to start planning now.

The move would close many schools across Ontario. The Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario represents 76,000 teachers and professionals, and they will be in a legal strike position by the end of the month.

This is all part of the ongoing protest over Bill 115 – which the union says strips them of the their fundamental right to negotiate, and gives the education minister unprecedented power to impose an agreement.

That news comes as high school teachers in Niagara and York regions rejected tentative agreements reached with their school boards, and are taking action of their own. Kate Carnegie reports:
