The Hamilton Fire Department says a blaze in the city’s east end caused about $500,000 in damage to a multi-story industrial building.

Saturday afternoon at approximately 1:53 p.m., fire officials responded to reports of a structure fire at 119 Princess St. near Sherman Avenue.

Upon arrival, crews reported heavy smoke and flames visible from a portion of the roof of a multi story industrial building. The incident was quickly upgraded to a multiple alarm fire.

Firefighters inside and outside the building worked quickly to bring the fire under control.

Officials say the fire, which appeared to have started on the roof, caused considerable damage to the roof structure and to the solar panel system on the roof.

Authorities say damage is estimated to be in the $500,000 range. There are no reported injuries.

The fire department says the Office of the Fire Marshal will be notified due to the monetary loss.
