Cop shoots, kills dog after aggressive pack went loose in Niagara Falls

A Niagara police officer shot and killed an aggressive dog Tuesday afternoon following reports of multiple dogs that were on the loose in the area of Thorold Stone and Kalar roads in Niagara Falls.

Investigators say at around 5:30 p.m., three large breed dogs were seen running around in traffic and chasing pedestrians, with reports that one dog had allegedly bitten a man.

The man was treated for minor injuries.

Several cars and people were trying to help corral the dogs. One dog had scratched and damaged an SUV.

When police arrived to help control the dogs, one dog had allegedly advanced aggressively toward one officer, pushing them into traffic.

The officer shot the dog with their service rifle and the dog died at the scene.

The other two dogs were captured and returned to their owner. There is no further threat to the public at this time.

The Niagara SPCA and Humane Society took over the investigation into the dog bite, and any violations regarding the dogs on the loose.

The body of the dog that was shot was taken in by the SPCA.
