Shoppers across the country can now apply for a share of a $500 million class-actions settlements over bread price fixing.

Canadians who bought packaged bread for personal use between 2001 and 2021 can submit a claim to Canadian Packaged Bread Class Actions Settlement.

Where people resided on Dec. 31, 2021 determines where to submit the claim. The deadline is Dec. 12 of this year and no proof of purchase is necessary.

The amount received depends on how many people submit claims.

The Ontario Superior Court approved the cross-Canada deal, which includes $404 million from Loblaw and George Weston after they were accused of engaging in an industry-wide scheme to fix the price of bread.

Another $96 million is accounted for through Loblaw’s 2018 gift card program, offered after customers paid about $1.50 more a loaf.

The website says that it is typical for compensation payments to be sent 6 to 12 months after the claim filing deadline.
