City of Hamilton rejects Salvation Army shelter move to Gage Avenue North

VIDEO: A decision at City Hall today was met with applause from people who have been fighting against the Salvation Army’s move to their neighbourhood.

Today, the Committee of Adjustment rejected the application to move the York Boulevard Booth Centre to Gage Avenue North.

The Booth Centre on York Boulevard is staying put for now, even though they applied to the city for minor variances to allow them to relocate to a vacant building on Gage Avenue North. People living in the Gage Avenue area fought the proposal, saying it’s not the right spot for a men’s shelter.
