City of Hamilton orders removal of “grey sludge” at Ancaster property
The City of Hamilton has issued the party responsible for the “grey sludge” that appeared at an Ancaster property in November to stop and remove it immediately.
The city learned last week of a property in Ancaster experiencing an sudden appearance of “grey sludge” where portions of the land was covered in an unknown substance.
The city received a complaint Nov. 27 related to ongoing construction set for site alteration at a property in the Garner Road and Hwy 6 area, work that is not related to the Public Works construction of Garner Road.
Following a joint inspection, staff says that it appears potential excess soils being dredged from a nearby, developer maintained, storm-water management facility was being imported to the Garner Road property.
Staff say they verbally ordered for the dumping of the dredged soil to stop on-site, and they say the developer’s representative complied with the order.
City staff say the developer’s representative confirmed that the materials will be removed from the are on or before Dec. 20.
