Chief warns of increased RCMP border patrol around Six Nations

The chief of Six Nations of the Grand River has issued a community notice regarding increased RCMP border patrols.
In an Instagram post Wednesday, Chief Sherri-Lyn Hill says she received notice on Jan. 25 from the RCMP that there will be more land and air border patrols.
“A Black Hawk helicopter with the RCMP logo will be utilized for air patrols,” reads the post.
“If you see this helicopter, it does not mean a specific threat or danger exists in the area.”
The Mounties are using helicopters to increase surveillance of the Canada-U.S. border across the country, including in Manitoba and New Brunswick.
The decision comes after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Donald Trump recently talked about the federal government’s $1.3-billion plan to beef up border security as the U.S. president has demanded.
Trump has agreed to a month-long pause on tariffs while the U.S. assesses whether Canada’s recent efforts satisfy his demands.
