Carney welcomes proposal for Canada to be EU “associate member”

On the world stage, Prime Minister Mark Carney said Thursday that he welcomes the proposal of Canada becoming the first “associate member of the European Union.” But questions linger about what this all means for Canada’s trade war with our neighbours to the south. The details of what an associate membership will look like still need to be worked out, and Carney says any enhanced partnership will be debated and voted on in Canada’s parliament. A similar debate will take place on the European side.
