Bell Canada reports 911 emergency services fully restored after morning outages

Bell Canada says major 911 emergency lines have been fully restored after an outage overnight Thursday affected parts of Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia.

The company said in a statement on Facebook that they detected an issue with the next-generation 9-1-1 network at around 3:13 a.m., before deploying backup systems.

Hamilton police told CHCH News that the emergency lines appeared to have gone down at around 3:30 a.m., but service has since been restored.

Officers said multiple police services across Ontario were also impacted, as officials continue to review the circumstances surrounding the outage to determine what caused it.

Niagara police posted on X at around 5 a.m. that their 911 emergency lines were not able to receive calls — their lines were restored within the hour.

Ontario Provincial Police say at around 4 a.m. they started receiving reports of intermittent 911 outages across the province, and redirected callers to their non-emergency line, which was fully operational..

The OPP say that the 911 system has largely stabilized, and all OPP Provincial Communications Centres across the province are once again receiving and processing calls.

Bell Canada says they are investigating the root cause of the issue and will provide further details once available.
