The Canadian government has endorsed a plan that will allow the remaining beluga whales in Marineland to be moved to a new home.

In a statement to CHCH News, the Department of Fisheries says the official final approval will come closer to “the date of transport, pending final animal health checks.”

They say the department has received a plan to transport the whales.

The plan is to now transport them to accredited facilities in Spain and in the U.S.

Marineland says relocating the aquatic animals is “an extraordinarily complex undertaking.”

The belugas and dolphins are scheduled to be relocated to five facilities: the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta, SeaWorld parks in San Antonio and San Diego, and Oceanogràfic Valencia in Spain.

American consortium Mystic Aquarium in Connecticut will also help with the move. Marineland previously sent five belugas to the facility back in 2021.
