Canadian Food Inspection Agency recalls plant-based beverages over Listeria concerns
Some popular brands of plant-based milk are being recalled across Canada over concerns about Listeria contamination.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says it is recalling multiple plant-based beverages from brands Silk and Great Value and is verifying that the food industry is removing the products from the marketplace.
This includes Silk brand almond milk, coconut milk, almond-coconut milk and oat milk, as well as Great Value brand almond milk, among others. Most of the products have a best-before date of Oct. 4.
The recall was triggered by an investigation into the food-borne illness outbreak associated with the products.
Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness.
The agency advises consumers not to drink, use, sell, serve or distribute the recalled products.
