The head of the union for Canada Post wants employees to reject a tentative contract deal months after reaching an agreement in principle.
The request by the president of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, Jan Simpson, comes even though 60 per cent of the national executive board recommends the contract be accepted.
A newsletter published by the union outlines the deal, but Simpson and four other leaders say it abandons most of what union members wanted to see in a deal.
“The next step is in your hands, your vote,” said Simpson in the newsletter.
Both the Rural and Suburban Mail Carriers and Urban Operations negotiating committees recommend its members vote “yes” for the tentative agreement.
55,000 Canada Post employees will vote on the contract between April 20 and May 30.
