Since mail is not normally delivered on the weekend, you might not have noticed any service disruptions yet from the strike at Canada Post. But one food bank in Burlington says the ongoing labour dispute could hurt its biggest fundraiser of the year.
Food for Life is one of the largest providers of fresh food for local programs, all thanks to the community’s generosity. However, with many financial donations traditionally sent through the mail, the organization is worried that its operations could take a hit.
Last year, Food for Life managed to distribute over $60 million worth of food, all thanks to contributions from the community.
But as workers continue picketing, they remain steadfast in their fight to get a deal done at the bargaining table.
They say they’re fighting for living wage increases, safer work environments, and better pension plans for new employees.
CHCH reached out to Canada Post for a comment. They said they’ve continued to put forward offers that protect and enhance what’s important for their employees.
In the meantime, if you want to help ensure Food for Life gets the support it needs, you can make a donation on their website at foodforlife.ca.
