Canada Post negotiations resume as special mediator joins talks

Negotiations between Canada Post and the union representing over 55,000 workers resumes Monday, with a federally appointed special mediator.

Monday marks day four of the strike as the Canadian Union of Postal Workers fight for living wage increases, safer work environments and better pension plans for new employees.

The union is also accusing Canada Post of violating the Canada Labour code, citing the cancellation of health benefits, and allowances and threats of layoffs.

Earlier on Friday Labour Minister Steve MacKinnon said he was ruling out early intervention for now as talks resume.

As the strike continues, charities and non-profit groups are concerned the strike will jeopardize their year-end fundraising, including Food For Life in Burlington.
