A Calgary man is wanted for seven Canada-wide warrants after the death of a mother of five.

Talal Amer, 29, faces several charges in relation to an incident that happened at around 11:10 p.m. on May, 10.

Calgary police say officers received reports of two vehicles that were driving erratically along 36 Street S.E., and were involved in a shooting before colliding with two additional uninvolved vehicles in the intersection of 36 Street and 17 Avenue S.E.

The incident resulted in the death of 40-year-old Angela McKenzie, the driver of one of the uninvolved vehicles. Police say several homes were also struck by gunfire during the incident.

Investigators say they identified Amer as being involved by reviewing CCTV footage from the scene and conducting witness interviews.

Amer is wanted for attempted murder, reckless discharge of a firearm, possession of a prohibited firearm with an obliterated serial number, unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of a prohibited device.

Police describe him as approximately 5’11”, with brown eyes and brown hair.

Investigators initially believed the incident may have been road rage related, but after identifying individuals involved and examining all evidence, police believe the shooting was targeted and that the driver of a Volkswagen Jetta was the intended target. Investigators say the occupants of the Jetta did not exchange gunfire as previously thought.

Police say they have also determined that Amer was the sole occupant of a Chevy Silverado, which was confirmed to be stolen. It is alleged that Amer was the aggressor in this incident by pursuing the Jetta and shooting at it before ultimately colliding with McKenzie’s vehicle.
