Some basements are still being worked on, while others have been restored after floods hit many homes and businesses in Burlington this past July.

Burlington experienced significant rainfall after two back-to-back storms in July. The creeks overflowed, causing widespread flooding, but additional help is coming.

Yesterday, it was announced that the province is activating the Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians program. This program helps some homeowners and small businesses recover costs after a natural disaster, with up to $250,000 available per home or small business.

The mayor says it is welcomed funding from the province. Cavendish Drive, Headon Road, Tyandaga Park Drive, and Willowbrook Road are the eligible areas in Burlington to apply for funding.

According to the province, the program is not intended to replace insurance coverage. For more information on the program, including what’s covered and if you’re eligible, you can visit ontario.ca/disasterassistance.
