Burlington-based group working to deliver aid to people in Libya

Humanitarian groups have been scrambling to get much-needed help to people in Libya, including the Burlington-based group, ‘Islamic Relief Canada.’
The registered charity has launched an emergency fundraising appeal to help those affected by the unprecedented flooding.
Fundraising Coordinator for Islamic Relief Canada, Bilaal Khan says at last check, the organization had raised $260,000 to help people who’ve been left homeless, but says much more is needed.

“We urge our fellow Canadians to donate to IRC’s emergency appeal, to provide essential supplies. So, essentially we are going to buy the stuff with our donations, and this will of course help the displaced individuals,” Khan said.
“We also ask Canadians to share Islamic Relief’s appeal links and post on their social media to gain traction on the issue so that people, donors, potential donors don’t forget about what’s going on.”
Khan says local response teams are distributing basic necessities — like food, blankets and mattresses — to displaced victims.
Islamic Relief Canada has also sent an emergency team to earthquake-ravaged Morocco.
