Brantford standoff ends

A police stand-off in downtown Brantford is over.

The incident began about 6:30 Sunday morning, when a man barricaded himself inside an apartment located above a store at the corner of Pearl and Palace streets.

Initial reports indicated a hostage was involved, but police say that was not the case.  They say they are investigating an assault that happened early Sunday morning.

Several residents were kept from their homes throughout the day, even though police maintained there was no threat to the public.

Then, at around 11:45 last night, neighbours say police entered the apartment, but didn’t bring anyone out.

About 45 minutes later witnesses say a forensics van arrived.  At this point police are only saying they’ve cleared the scene, but the investigation is ongoing.
