Brantford man arrested for second-degree murder after trail stabbing

Brantford police say a 28-year-old man has been arrested for second-degree murder after a fatal stabbing in the city’s Holmedale neighbourhood.

On Wednesday at approximately 5 p.m., officers responded to the trail area near Grand River Avenue and Morrell Street after receiving a report of a disturbance involving two men.

Upon arrival, authorities located a man that had been assaulted and stabbed.

Despite life-saving efforts, the man died of his injuries. A second man was located at the scene and transported to hospital with serious injuries.

Officers say the second man has now been arrested and charged with second-degree murder. He has been identified as a 28-year-old of Brantford.

Detectives say they have recovered the weapon believed to have been used in this stabbing.

Investigators believe this is an isolated incident, adding that no other suspects are wanted. Police say there is no threat to public safety.
