Hamilton police are searching for a man who escaped from custody early Thursday morning in central Hamilton.
Officers say at around 1 a.m. in the area of Main Street East and Grant Avenue, 18-year-old Sultan Aldarwish, who was arrested on an outstanding arrest warrant for failing to comply with a release order, had escaped from police custody.
They say Aldarwish was also under arrest for new charges for failing to comply with a release order.
Investigators are searching through the area along with the K9 unit, and say Aldarwish’s last confirmed location to be in the area of Barton Street East and Leeming Street.
Police describe Aldarwish as a six-foot-one tall Middle Eastern man, weighing around 168 lbs, has brown eyes, long black curly hair, a small goatee and a thin moustache.
He was last seen wearing a black Moose Knuckle jacket, black shorts and black shoes, and was still handcuffed when he escaped.
A media release said that Aldarwish was found, but was later updated to reflect that he was still outstanding.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
