Brantford city council considering new sports, entertainment centre

Brantford city council announced Friday they will officially consider a proposal for a new sports centre plot at a Tuesday committee meeting.

The plans for a new sports and entertainment centre was proposed to downtown Brantford aiming to create a multi-use venue that will be the new permanent home for the Brantford – formerly Hamilton – Bulldogs.

The venue is designed to have a seating capacity of over 5,000 and attract “higher-profile entertainment” reads the press release on the project.

The statement outlines the cost of the project to be around $140 million with construction to begin in 2026 and finish early 2028.

Chief administrative officer for the city Brian Hutchings said in the statement that the centre will transform downtown, attract visitors and create jobs.

“Investing in recreation infrastructure is investing in our community’s future,” he said.

The new entertainment centre plan boasts a generation of $13.2 million in annual economic activity along with a steady flow of income from out-of-town visitors of $4.8 million per year to see the Brantford Bulldogs.

The special committee of the whole is scheduled to be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. to be open to the public at Brantford city hall or through the city’s YouTube channel.
