Brampton man tries to smuggle over 180 bricks of cocaine into Canada

A Brampton man is facing numerous charges after attempting to bring more than 180 bricks of cocaine into the country.
Members of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) were assisted by RCMP officers on Oct. 17 when a commercial truck driver approached the primary inspection booth in Point Edward.
The driver was referred for secondary examination of his truck where border services officers noted inconsistencies in the load.
When officers carried out a detailed inspection of the cargo in the truck, they uncovered 188 brick-shaped objects of suspected cocaine.
The total weight of the suspected cocaine is approximately 224 kilograms.
The driver was arrested and transferred over to the custody of the RCMP.
Zenon Bialkowski, 68, of Brampton is charged with importation of cocaine as well as possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The matter is currently before the court in Sarnia.
“The work of the Canada Border Services Agency is our country’s first line of defence – and seizures like this are clear signs that our efforts to prevent crime and keep illegal drugs off our streets are working,” Minister of Public Safety, Marco E. L. Mendicino said.
