Bradford girl dies after being struck by soccer net

A 15-year old Newmarket girl has died, after what police are calling an accident on a soccer field in Bradford, just south of Barrie.  Yesterday afternoon, a soccer net fell on top of the teen, killing her.

Police say the 15-year old girl was visiting her friend in Bradford when the freak accident happened — she got pinned under the net.

Jean Perdiago: “When I got here I just saw the parking lot was shut off-and there was police cars here , there was an ambulance on the field. And there was a fire truck and after that we saw the helicopter land.”

She was taken to hospital, but died a short time later.

Police say the two girls were playing out here on the soccer field by them selves when the net fell over. One of the friends did try to help the other one, but she wasn’t able to and that’s when she called 911.

“The matter is currently under investigation, as to the cause, how the girl received the injuries from the soccer net , our criminal investigation unit along with forensic identification and with assistance of traffic reconstruction. The investigation is being looked into so we can find the exact cause of her injuries.”

Witnesses say the girls could have been swinging on the net.-and that’s what caused it to fall over on her.
