The girlfriend of one of the accused testified at the Tim Bosma murder trial today and while she was on the stand she told court Dellen Millard and Mark Smich were excited and triumphant about stealing a truck the morning after Tim Bosma went missing.

Meneses dated Mark Smich for a year leading up to May of 2013. Court heard she was living with her mother and going to high school when they met, but she dropped out a month shy of graduation and moved in with Smich. 22 year old Marlena Meneses got involved with Mark Smich when she was 18 and their eyes met at Tim Hortons.

“I just looked over at him and he just gave me some look,” she said, as if remembering fondly.
“His eyes were all big, and it was like he was in love with me.”

The two mostly lived together at Smich’s mother’s house on Montrose Abbey drive in Oakville.
“We were pretty close but he wasn’t always the greatest to me”

She also told the jury Smich was in love with Dellen Millard, they were like brothers. She knew they were planning to steal a truck in May of 2013 and she said she asked Millard why he didn’t just buy one, he didn’t answer.

Monday May 6, Meneses knew Millard and Smich were planning a test drive and robbery. She couldn’t reach him all night and she was panicking. Smich got back to her in the morning and said he was picking her up. The jury has seen video of Meneses leaving her sister’s apartment at 30 Speers road in Oakville and go out to the Yukon she says Millard was driving. Smich opens the door and she gets in the back.

To the jury, she said the mood in the car that morning was, “very happy. Just really happy. They told me they wanted to celebrate. They said the mission went well.”
Sniffs and sobs burst out of the body of the court at this, while Tim’s widow Sharlene Bosma stared stonily from the front row.

When Millard was arrested, Meneses saw it on the news and says she freaked out at Smich. Smich told her he didn’t do anything. “He said Mr. Bosma was gone, gone. He said Dell murdered him. That he shot him.”

After Millard’s arrest Smich immediately called Andrew Michalski asked him to round up the drugs in Millards house and bring them to him. It seems like he was surprised that a gun was also in the toolbox that typically held drugs. That’s when he started panicking, moved into Marlena’s sister’s house and told people he was afraid Millard was setting him up. He tried to sell the gun, but several people told him that was stupid.

Marlena says he eventually wrapped it in duct tape and buried it in the woods somewhere. Meneses was cheerful and bright at first but she broke down a couple of times during testimony and she seems to genuinely regret not going to police immediately with what she knew. She’s back on the stand for cross examination on Monday.
